WISDOM
WISDOM – Portrait of a Khmer Soul
150x120cm (59x47in)
Acrylic on canvas
In this painting, I wanted to honor an essential figure of Cambodia: the grandmother, the keeper of memory, resilience, and faith. Her face, etched with time, shows a Cambodian elder with hands held in sampeah, the traditional gesture of greeting, reverence, and prayer.
Each wrinkle, each fold of her skin tells a story of labor, quiet endurance, and whispered devotion. Upon her head rests the krama, the iconic Khmer scarf, not only a symbol of identity but also of dignity. Here, it is worn with pride, almost like a crown.
The abstract background, soft and dreamlike, allows her form to emerge like a living memory, suspended between presence and spirit. This is a portrait of gratitude, a painted prayer, a silent hymn to the Khmer mothers and grandmothers.
Through her, we see the soul of Cambodia, simple, beautiful, and unshakable.
Each stroke of this original artwork carries a story and a piece of the soul that created it.
